I spent years looking for clothes that fit. Then I decided to make them.
The story of The Célestines — and why tall women should never have to compromise on style, fit or proportion.
Full-length, natural light, personal
I'm Mathilde, a tall French woman living in the UK.
For most of my life, finding clothes that truly fit meant compromising. Trousers were too short. Sleeves stopped above my wrists. Proportions sat in the wrong place. And the options made for taller women? Basics. Functional. Nothing I felt beautiful in.
Even today, that's still largely true. Tall women are expected to make do — to size up, to hem, to accept that fashion wasn't designed for us.
In my early twenties, while living in China, I discovered something that changed my life: I could have clothes made to my own measurements. For the first time, trousers were long enough. Sleeves reached my wrists. The proportions made sense. I didn't have to wear heels to make an outfit work — the clothes looked right on their own.
It made me realise that tall women don't need a few extra centimetres at the hem. We need clothing designed with our full proportions in mind: the rise, the knee placement, the shape, the balance — clothes that work whether you're in trainers or a low heel.
The name comes from céleste — "of the sky". If you're tall, you're a Célestine too.
The Célestines creates elevated, feminine clothing for taller women, beginning with trousers designed to fit properly from the start — UK sizes 8–18, inseams from 34", proportions drawn for tall bodies. Every piece is made to order. And for when only exact will do, Made to Measure is our premium option.
The aim is simple: to create clothes that make tall women feel considered, confident and beautifully themselves — without compromise.
